Climate Influence, Defined
(It's not celebrities and one-off posts.)
Climate influence is my term. And, as with so much in my work, it’s counterintuitive.
In other words, I am not talking about paying a celebrity for a one-off post to reach their bazillion followers with a “less car, more bike” or “go plant-based” message. I’m talking about the intentional and strategic ways to leverage the messaging around and platforms of political, corporate and cultural leaders within their own niche followings. (Less sexy analytics, but much more effective for a cause that is rapidly running out of time.)
This could be a mayor, a DJ, a hospital system, an athlete or a corporate leader.
In this audio post, I go back to the basics.
I came up with the term “climate influence” about three years ago. And, as I advise clients on how to build it, collaborate with event organizers and food/transportation initiatives, and continue to develop my podcast ideas, word is getting out. It’s not as immediate or flashy. You have to do some homework and develop some “warming” of relationships, but the ROI for the planet - and for your being seen as a leader with climate acting political will - is MASSIVE.
Listen, learn and please comment here or be in touch with me with any feedback. We can build a bench with MORE climate influence and change the perception of the social norm for leadership.
Be seen leading on climate. You have climate influence.
As mentioned in my audio post, following are two resources.
This workshop is one I did in late 2021 for a food systems transition event on climate conversion storytelling. The more “unusual” the suspect or unexpected the messenger, the better!
