Expand Your #ClimateWeekNYC INFLUENCE mindset
You can only start to influence climate action more, for your own company or among your leadership peers, when YOU decide to get more visible. Please absorb that and consider how you may be shying away from using your own voice - and speaking from your own climate values - a bit more.
Moments like ClimateWeekNYC are where you can take those first BOLDER steps, and I truly encourage you to do that in September. Step up and truly be part of the Climate Influence bench. This is exactly what I talk my advisory clients through in the months leading up to events like this and the annual COP. And, you know where to find me if you’d like a quick hour consult to get you rolling.
Anyway - this post was inspired by just one such conversation. I’d love to hear if this audio post gives you fresh insight.
A few excerpts from my audio:
Again, there's a lot of insight to gain for any leader who wants to be more seen as the curator, community engager and former for their space. And I want to step back and do a little coach thing here and say, you absolutely are that person.
Your particular take, your particular insight, your particular background is extremely unique. If you wanted to be the renewable energy leader for all of Climate Week, you could start now and make a real difference and be more visible. So this is possible. You just have to think a lot bigger than you've been thinking.
And…
There's just so much that you can see. If you look at the intersection of LinkedIn conversations by, say, you already know the top 10 leaders of the names of people that you follow for your sector,… what is the intersection of what they're talking about and what you're seeing on that schedule, on that agenda for ClimateWeek? There's a lot of stuff to gather…
And…
I'm watching what's happening in the climate week schedule and I'm seeing really interesting and fresh voices in food transition leadership are being elevated to important stages. This is not the usual suspects. This is not big ag companies sitting on stage saying, oh no, we don't have to do a plant-based transition. It's totally fresh, exciting, energizing voices, because there's hope around this and we can do this people. And my guess is that this is happening in your sector too. Why aren't you one of those fresh face leaders on that stage?
As I mention in this audio post, I am working with the NYC Food Policy team on building the momentum for their incredible Plant-Powered Carbon Challenge initiative, and wow -does it come at an ENERGIZED time! They will be involved in quite a few events (some on the ClimateWeekNYC official program - here’s the developing “food” agenda for Climate Group-specific events - and others are side events). Stay tuned as I will keep you apprised of any that have the potential for the public to attend.
The topic of food and climate is JUST now gaining it’s speed and that, my friends is an INDICATOR of where corporate and political leadership in this climate crisis is going. If you want your corporate food policy to be on the leading edge for reducing Scope 3 agricultural emissions, you’ll want to study up.
Even more to the ClimateWeekNYC point, if your company or organization is based in NYC and has a food service footprint, you have a massive opportunity to be part of this Challenge and be “named and famed” (by me) for being a more visible leader in this particular, fast-acting emissions reduction effort. Ping me, ASAP, and let’s set you up for Scope 3 emissions and ramping up your food for Climate Influence (see what I did there?)

On that note - here’s an interesting food/climate resource via Deloitte and WBCSD: The Plant-Forward Opportunity Business Playbook. And, as per my audio - I am again “naming and faming” the degree to which food is getting it’s corporate sustainability due these days and now - yay - on ClimateWeekNYC stages.

Update on my own projects: my collaborators and I are in full development stage for the second season of Living Change, with Andrea Learned and for a short documentary film on my Climate Influence work. To get those going soon, we are inviting corporations and funders that aim to be seen leading with ever-bolder climate influence to stand behind us in our fundraising efforts. Support through financial contribution as well as the sharing of our project with your peers is welcomed. Reach out to schedule a sponsorship exploratory call here. It’s GO time!

Thanks so much for your interest in my work, and for sharing/amplifying this post if you know of folks who need a little extra inspiration to build THEIR climate influence momentum. (You do know some!) Until next post…
